Red Wine

Zweigelt, Pinot Noir, Blaufränkisch, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and the great cuvées: Anton Bauer's red wines combine Pannonian warmth with the freshness of the Wagram. With the Pinot Noir, we also offer a classic Burgundian variety that is atypical for our region - the knowledge for this comes from Burgundy and is applied by Anton Bauer at the Wagram. Many of our reserves age for 16 to 36 months in oak and barrique barrels and have been awarded up to 95 points by Falstaff. Here you can order every red wine directly from the winery - free shipping throughout Austria for orders over €100.

Buy red wine from an award-winning winery

The Wagram is no longer just white wine territory: red wines with depth, structure, and elegance ripen on the warm loess soils around Feuersbrunn. Our Zweigelt Feuersbrunn DAC shows the Austrian flagship variety at its juiciest, the Wagram Pinot Noir DAC proves Burgundian finesse, and the Reserve line – from the Cuvée Reserve to the Anton Bauer Privat (95 Falstaff points) – is among the highest-rated red wines in Lower Austria.

Cuvées & Reserves: Patience in the barrel

What our reserves have in common: time. 16 to 36 months of aging in French oak give the wines depth, fine toasted aromas, and great aging potential. The limited L.E. (Limited Edition) bottlings only appear in the best vintages – also available as magnums and double magnums for special occasions.

Which red wine goes with which food?

Zweigelt and Pinot Noir accompany duck, game, and pasta; powerful cuvées and Cabernet Sauvignon call for steak, roasts, or aged hard cheese. You can find detailed recommendations for every wine.

Frequently asked questions about our red wines

How do you store red wine correctly?

Cool (ideally 50-59 °F), dark, vibration-free, and at a temperature that is as constant as possible. Store bottles with natural cork lying down; a normal cellar room is perfectly sufficient for most wines. Our reserves gain depth over the years this way.

How long does an opened bottle of red wine last?

Resealed and stored in a cool place, red wine lasts about 2-4 days. Strong, young red wines like our reserves often even gain harmony on the second day.

What are sulfites in wine?

Sulfites (sulfur compounds) occur naturally in small amounts during fermentation and are used to stabilize the wine – they protect fruit and freshness. From 10 mg/l, the note “contains sulfites” is mandatory throughout the EU and is therefore on practically every quality wine.
